Parental Involvement
Our group is one of the largest in the region and the only group in Exeter that runs more than one Beaver Colony and Cub Pack. Not only do we offer a wealth of experience in our leaders but benefit from a strong and willing group of parents who invest their time and support in making scouting a thriving and nurturing environment for our young people to develop. As such we hope that you will be willing to become an active member of the group.
As a Parent/Guardian we hope that in turn you will be willing to actively contribute to the group. You can do this in a variety of ways:
- By providing support to our Leaders through the Parent Rota that all sections run. This involves you giving some time to the section and helping Leaders with the running of the meetings, (normally once or twice a term).
- As a Charity we are always looking for new ideas and suggestions that will help with Fund Raising. We are also always grateful for any time you can give us to help with running these.
- Once a year we run an “Annual Work Weekend” where we ask all adults linked with the group to help us with the essential upkeep of the Headquarters in order to ensure we have a safe, clean and functional environment for all of our children to enjoy.
- Child Protection is something which the Scout Association take very seriously, (in fact the CRB scheme that all schools ask parent helpers to participate in was developed from a Template that the Scout Association built). With this in mind we ask that all adult helpers participate in this voluntary scheme and submit to a CRB check every two years.
- Attending the Annual Parent Meeting (usually in June) where you will have the ability to contribute to the running of the group.
- Participate in the running of the group behind the scenes by joining the “Leadership Team”. (Our equivalent of a board of Governors).
If you have any skills that you feel would be of use to the running of the group we are always grateful of any assistance that you can give us in making our group an environment where all of our Scouts can thrive.
