Welcome to 2nd Exeter Scout Group

2nd Exeter Scout Group has operated in Heavitree for over 100 years. We celebrated our 100th birthday in 2019. The Group has met at various locations within the area but moved to the purpose-built Scout Hut on South Lawn Terrace in 1968.

The Group is now running with the highest number of members in the last 20 years, reaching nearly 200 in January 2020. We are proud to be one of the largest groups in the County providing a huge range of activities for boys and girls.

As a Scout Group, we aim to provide a balanced and varied programme for our young girls and boys, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts aged 6 to 14 years old. Developing their minds and bodies to create good citizens of the future.

CAMPING

All of our age groups love camping, our Beavers stay close to home while Cubs go away several times a year for up to a week.

CLIMBING & ABSEILING

Climbing walls are used by all of our age groups while the older Cubs and Scouts love their Climbing camps.

SCUBA DIVING

This is a regular favourite activity where the children get to experience the thrill of breathing underwater.

HIKING

Whether you fancy Ten Tors or enjoy walking with new friends we have an adventure for you.

ARCHERY

Both indoors and outdoors our children learn to stretch their skills through our regular Archery sessions.

CAVING

From crawling through the smallest spaces and descending underground waterfalls to exploring huge caverns.

TEAM BUILDING

Teamwork is at the heart of Scouting. From building a raft with your friends to a race against another team.

SURVIVAL SKILLS

Learn to make a fire from scratch, or weave Rope from string. Come and learn skills that you will remember for life.

COMMUNITY WORK

The importance of giving back to your community is a life lesson that will never be forgotten.

Family day & AGM 2021

On the cusp of the end of lockdown in England, (or so I hope while planning) we hope to get together for a low key and casual get together at Heathfield Farm in Broadclyst. https://heathfieldfarm.org/  Heathfield farm works to support adults with learning difficulties in Devon and is allowing us full access to the Farm on Saturday 26th June 2021.  The afternoon will start at 2 pm with a couple of hours volunteering in small family groups on the farm, (please bring some gardening tools with you!)  we would love you to bring a picnic and drinks with you and we can sit out on their lawn or in the field and have dinner which will be followed by our AGM and of course the obligatory Camp Fire, we aim to be done by just after 7 pm.

If the weather is good and Lockdown eases as we hope it will be a great social, family event and we would love you all to join us.  There is no cost but we would love to know if you can make it, we will send out a request for an idea of numbers in May.
